Simon Turner from Maliaka Honey in Uganda

When he arrived in Uganda in November 2005, Melburnian Simon Turner had only £300 in his pocket and a lead about investing in the export of honey. Fast forward to 2024 and Malaika Honey in Uganda has been running for 18 years and has not only been successful in developing a sustainable beekeeping industry in Uganda but has been able to connect with a wide range of international partners and supporters including the UN Industrial Development Organisation, Jane Goodall Institute and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Over the past few years, Simon and his organisation have been working in the northern borderland refugee camps, using beekeeping as a tool for livelihood development and have since expanded our efforts into reforestation initiatives.

It has been an incredible journey, and Simon is back to give an update on his progress, challenges, and the impact they are making in these communities
