Introduction & Housekeeping: President, Debbie Webber
Speaker: Amanda King, Beekeeping in Morocco
Q and A
Our speaker had to cancel the last meeting and we are delighted she is able to come and see us this month.
Amanda King is a beekeeper based in Australia, with an apiary of 20 hives in Gippsland, specialising in Manuka honey and apitherapy.
She also has hives in London and in Morocco where she has spent the last 6 months researching beekeeping there.
Morocco has an ancient history of beekeeping, and many traditions and practices have not changed for hundreds of years. The UNESCO site of the 'world's biggest beehive’ is a remnant of this.
In this arid land beekeepers work on rugged mountain slopes where wild thyme grows, and others keep their bees inside the thick mud walls of their houses as summer temperatures soar.
She has also visited our club in the past.
Let’s welcome her back and learn more about the challenges of beekeeping in far off lands.
