    Dear members

I want to have some friends over and light a camp fire. how much will this disturb my bees?  The fire will be in a pit about 5 meters away from my hives

should i wait till it's  dark or start the fire before that

    any input will be welcomed

Hi Steve, the answer is partly depends on the flight path of your colonyand the weather.

If the fire pit is below the flight path you need to wait until the colony has gone to bed.  On a cold spring night they will tuck themselves away by 5:00 pm, but on a nice day the 'feral' hive that I have positioned in full afternoon sun will still be working at five, even if there is a light drizzle.

However, if the fire pit is behind the flight path of the colony I would be quite happy lighting the fire well before the colony goes to bed.
